New Year special

A new year presents a fresh start. It symbolises freedom, freedom to leave the old year behind and unlimited possibilities that a new year presents.

On Jan 1, Alex and Hugh are tearing down the barriers and presenting music from the whole spectrum, 'the full catastrophe'. Because it's a new year, the sky is blue and in 2012 you can have it all.

Catch us on Joy 94.9, 1pm Sunday January 1, 2012.

Old, new, borrowed, blue

NO!! This week's hosts Andy and Andrew aren't getting married - however their theme in the first hour is old and new: Original roots versions of songs that later became well-known in another way, New songs sampling old roots songs, Strange connections between old and new songs.

Then in the second hour, they'll play whatever they feel like. Plus lots of wandering conversation - hear about Andrew's upcoming OS posting.

Music and blabbing - you know the score. 3 Chords & the Truth - Sundays 1pm-3pm.

Mmmmmmm Big M

Katie and Andy are bringing you the letter M this Sunday, 1pm to 3pm. No, it's not Sesame Street, it's 3 Chords & the Truth, so it should be more Mavis Staples than Milli Vanilli, but who knows?

1pm, 4 Dec, 3 Chords - Andy & Zoe - Indigenous

This Sunday, 3 Chords & the Truth is hosted by Zoe and Andy. The theme for the first hour is Indigenous. And, of course, the second hour will be great music & blabbing, including an update on the Queenscliff Music Festival, especially the Michael Jackson Roots Music Tribute! Be there.

Sons of the fathers

Join Andy and Alex as we sail down the male line checking out the genes of acts like Jakob Dylan and Liam Finn, and musicians inspired by their fathers and their sons.

Do we deserve the fathers we get? Are we built from the same tree, or different wood? Do we even see our fathers while they are alive?

We will be delving where few dare to tread, Sunday 1pm, Joy 94.9 or www.joy.org.au

So 2011

It's time to do a summing up - what has 2011 brought us, how was it for you?

Andy will be joined by Little Fish, Hannah, for an hour of the indie music that has lit up the year.

Join us 1pm, Sunday, Joy 94.9.

Exclusive new song by Alex Gow on Sunday's show

This week we  are celebrating the beautiful Victorian countryside. We'll have stars from all over Victoria, songs about Victoria and just songs that celebrate the country life we're all pining for at this time of year.

And we speak to Alex Gow from Oh Mercy ahead of his appearance in the 'They will have their way' tribute to the Finn brothers. A special treat is a recording of the first track he has ever written from the third person, and the female point of view. It's called 'My man', it's a cracker, and until it is recorded the only place you can hear it right now is ....
Three Chords and the Truth, Joy 94.9, Sunday 1pm.

Go west young person of self-determined gender

This week Andy & Zoe are going WEST. Songs from the west, about the west, but probably not any actually by Go West.

Gently does it

Gentle. Man. Two ingredients make gentlemen. Have you got what it takes?

Our artists this week are men that are not afraid of their softer side. Maybe they can teach me to be a gentleman too?

And we have the incredible Lucie Thorne joining us. What more could you want?

Tune in to Three Chords and the Truth, Joy 94.9, www.joy.org.au 1pm Sunday.

Size Queen

It doesn't matter, if you don't quite have the stature.
We're all just right - if not for Snow White.

Do you feel inadequate? Or have you been provided with a bigger trunk than Jumbo?

If you've got size issues, come Jana Vendt with us. Tune into Three Chords and the Truth, Sunday 1pm, for songs for little people, about being little or just by Jimmy Little.

We'll also be playing our interview with amazing up and coming British folkie - hailed as 'the new Bob Dylan' - Bobby Long. NB: We will not be asking if he's long by nature as well as by name.

3 Chords gets mythsterious

This Sunday Andy and Zoe cover the myths behind songs.
Was Sadie really a cleaning lady, or was she a callgirl?
Was Lola a callgirl or quite the opposite?
Is the song that was written about Warren Beatty "You're so vain", or is it - as he thinks - "The impossible dream"?
Listen in and learn... or correct us when we get it wrong!
Tell us the myths you've heard about songs too.

Jim Jimmy

Today's show is brought to you by the names James. James Cagney, James Dean and Jimi Hendrix are just a few in a long line of iconoclasts to own or adopt this name, and become entertainment bywords.
So we are going to touch on this influence with songs by Jims, Jameses and Jimmies. By Jimminy this is going to be a great show.
Join Alex and Andy 1pm Sunday, 94.9, joy.org.au or the Joy App. So many ways to enjoy.

Hot and happening

Not trendy, us? How dare you? We reserve the right to be as flash in the pan, here today gone tomorrow as the rest of you.

This Sunday it's all NOW NOW NOW on Three Chords and the Truth from 1pm.

We have a special hot and happening guest in the studio - Cilla Jane Leighton Daly. Be there!

Diva day

Kaz and Alex bring you an hour of Divas from the blues, country and rock worlds. Because you don't have to dress like a bridesmaid, or turn up late, to be a diva .... You just have to have ATTITUDE!

Hold on to something - these divas will blow you away. 1pm Sunday Joy 94.9

Indigenous World

Neil Finn is touring with his new outfit Pajama Party, and we are speaking to Alana Skyring from his band on
Three Chords and the Truth this Sunday.

Our theme in the first hour is Indigenous World, showcasing artists from many countries who are the indigenous inhabitants ... not feral ring-ins like Andy and me.

Join us 1pm Sunday on Joy 94.9 or joy.org.au

And if you love Joy, make sure to sign up to keep us on air. Radiothon goes till friday midnight.

Alex and Andy's Big Gay Love-in

It's radiothon and Alex and Andy are doing a Yoko and John and jumping into bed for a big gay love-in. We won't leave till we have wrangled you into a Joy membership.

Love-in? Think messy, sloppy or sensible. Love can break you or make you, it makes you greedy or passionate, and sometimes it come out tough.

But love makes the world go round! If you love Joy by signing up as a member, we'll play you a love song of your choice. You can choose from:
LOVE GONE RIGHT, LOVE GONE WRONG OR LOVE GONE WEIRD!

Joy loves you and we need a bit of love back. Call it needy love, if you must .... just call!!! 1300 JOY 949.

Three Chords and the Truth 1pm June 5.

PS We will be interviewing Neil Finn June 12. Stay tuned!

You can write a hit song, but a classic album?

It takes a special artist to write a special album. And most only have one classic album, the quintessential album that defined them. To nail it from beginning to end, to tackle a theme, or define a generation. These are just some of the things that a classic album can achieve.

This week, Andy and Alex present songs from some classic albums, from the 60s to the teens of the millenium!

Three Chords and the Truth 1pm Sunday 29 May.
